| A high country pack trip is made up of many treasured moments; the early morning sun painting the peaks, fresh grizzly tracks on a sandbar, a brightly colored trout rising to a dry fly, or perhaps the hoarse bugle of a bull elk in rut. | ||||||||||||

| For the adventurous souls who undertake these horseback expeditions there are other benefits; for most a packtrip is a relaxing retreat away from the pressures and frantic pace of modern life, a chance to loose all sense of time and urgency, and an opportunity for solitude and reflection amidst the softening influences of nature. | ||||||||||||

| Logistically our packtrips work like this: on the day of our departure, following an early breakfast, we will shuttle to the trailhead and rendezvous with the waiting packstring and crew. You will have an opportunity to get acquainted with your saddle horse while the packers load the mules. Then we will be off to the hills. |

| Our longer trips are a "progressive travel" style of packtrip that utilizes extensive routes covering the most scenic features of the region. Depending upon the terrain and elevation changes, rides can involve distances of six to eighteen miles between camps. Unless weather dictates a change in schedule, we will alternate traveling a day and resting a day (or two) throughout most of the trip. | ||||||||||||

| On "travel days" we try to end our ride by 3pm in order to allow plenty of time for setting camp and preparing supper. Guest participation with camp chores includes pitching your individual tent and helping to gather firewood. The packers will take care of unloading pack mules, unsaddling, picketing the stock, and securing the tack. Our camp cook will tend the fire and prepare traditional dutch oven meals we guarantee you will find both wholesome and delicious. |

| The "layover days" provide a flexible framework for guests to enjoy individually diverse interests. You may decide to take a dayride, go hiking or fishing, or just relax in camp and enjoy the tranquility of the high country environment. |
